Dillo Hills, the game based on Tiny Wings that we reported on a few weeks back, has arrived on the Android Market - although those hoping for a straight-up copy of the original game are in for a surprise.

While the basic gameplay - tap to lower your creature into ravines so it builds up momentum - remains the same (and the scoring system feels eerily similar), developer Justin Smith has included a few twists to the formula that mark it out as more than just a straight clone.

One such addition is the ability to ‘glide’ off large jumps, allowing you to use passing birds to springboard higher for extended jumps, while the divisive nest multiplier of the original has been replaced with an easier to follow combo system.

The game requires an unreasonably powerful handset to run at high detail right now due to some optimisation issues - even a Galaxy S will struggle to keep a consistent framerate on the fourth island - although the developer has promised to fix these in later update.

There is the option of lowering the detail if you’re using a mid-range handset, but the game is still a bit choppy and rough when it comes to speed on mid-range Androids.

Dillo Hills is available now on the Android Market for 62p/99c (link) and a free trial with one selectable character is also available to try out (link).
