Canadian developer Big Blue Bubble - which made the Pocket Gamer Bronze Award-winning Burn the Rope - has just released iOS Metroidvania game Dark Incursion onto the App Store.

It’s set in an alternate version of the 19th century, in which the industrial revolution is developing alongside a worldwide conflict fought with futuristic biological weaponry. It's standard steampunk fare, then, all rendered in some truly lovely 2D pixel art graphics.

Playing as mysterious protagonist Anya, and furnished with an arsenal of upgradable ‘bioweaponry’, you’ll be unlocking a steady stream of new abilities as you explore the game’s sprawling 2D world. Oh, and you’ll be killing lots of monsters too.

Dark Incursion is available now as a Universal app for iPad and iPhone [buy]. Big Blue Bubble is offering 33 per cent off during the game's launch week, so it’s currently priced at £1.49/£1.99.
