Publisher IndiePub has announced that it's bringing 2D PC platformer Capsized to Apple's iPad in January 2012, as a free-to-play offering.

Capsized sees you take on the role of an adventurous space traveller who has crash-landed on a strange alien planet. What other kind is there?

You have to successfully navigate 12 "non-linear" levels and protect your fellow crew members from hostile aliens, using a range of weapons, armours, and power-ups.

A "robust in-game currency system" allows you to spend real-world cash to purchase upgrades, new skills, and more.

Aside from the game's Campaign mode, you can jump into Death Match, Survival, Time Trial, and Armless Fighting modes. We may be going out on a limb here, but the latter mode sounds rather difficult.

Capsized will be available in the App Store as a free download from January.
