Blue Lock: Blaze Battle, a new soccer simulator adaptation of the popular anime series, is due out later this year in Japan

Developer BAEL has announced that they’re trying their hand at a mobile game adaptation of the recent big manga/anime success Blue Lock with their latest release, Blue Lock: Blaze Battle. This is now the second Blue Block video game adaptation we’re receiving on mobile, but this one seeks to differentiate itself by rendering out all of the matches in gorgeous full 3D visuals with cut-ins directly from the anime itself!

In case you aren’t familiar, Blue Lock is a series that essentially mixes a battle royale storyline with the wonderful sport of soccer. The entire story revolves around a large group of prospective soccer players within Japan’s youth who are brought to a vicious training facility, where they must fight to be the best, else they get kicked out and their soccer career entirely ends.

This makes for some really engaging storytelling, as instead of the typical sports anime tropes of teamwork being the real victor, Blue Lock encourages each player to perform their best on their own, as there can only be one winner of the entire system at the end of the day. With that in mind, the series becomes a lot more intense and less heartwarming than other sports anime series out there.

As for Blaze Battle, the gameplay isn’t really shown off too much in the trailer above, but we can see that the matches are clearly rendered in full 3D, which is pretty unique for a soccer game, let alone one based on an anime art style. Otherwise, the only real information we have is that the game will feature a story mode that will retell the key moments of the manga, so newcomers won’t be entirely lost.

Aside from that, Blaze Battle is light on the details, but given it’s due to launch in Japan later this year, I’m sure we’ll receive some updates down the line. Until then, check out the official website for a deeper look!
