Swedish games developer GLFF.gg has released a new free to play mobile game called Phrased Out. It is available now for iOS and Android devices.

Phrased Out is all about you fighting through hordes of enemies using word and trivia gameplay to solve the mystery of a lost robot called BeepBoop.

From the sounds of it, it plays a lot like a mix of the classic game ‘Hangman’ and a roguelike, with twists that include an RPG-style levelling system as well as a hints feature to keep it from being too difficult. When you fail, you must start at the beginning of the gauntlet but you can upgrade your character to improve your chances to get further in the game each time you start a new run.

Basically, the further you get, the more story you unlock and more powerful upgrades you can grab. Even if you lose and have to restart, you still have the advantage of being a little bit stronger for your next run.

Some of these upgrades include methods to manipulate time, increase your total guesses, shuffle topics and tweak your journey so you stumble across more helpful encounters on your journey.

“We wanted players to feel empowered, unlike a lot of trivia games out there that just beat you up if you don’t already know a category well. Having a deep set of trivia knowledge will be a big advantage in the beginning but by the end, the game’s meta becomes the driving force to progress,” says Henrik Nyström from GLHF.

You can download Phrased Out now from the iOS App Store and the Google Play for Android store, where it is a free to play game containing adverts and in-app purchases.
