Interview: Oasis Games discusses One-Punch Man: Road to Heroes 2.0 and the challenges of bringing a popular series to life for mobile

One-Punch Man: Road to Heroes 2.0 launched for both iOS and Android back on 30th June and it's proven to be pretty popular since. It looks to improve on the original in several ways to give fans the most extensive OPM experience possible, without Saitama being playable of course, otherwise, there would d be no challenge.

We recently had the opportunity to talk to Oasis Games's PR & Brand Manager, Stacy Lee, about their hero collecting RPG and we’re happy to publish this interview exclusively during LaunchPad.

What are the most important considerations when working with a popular IP like One Punch Man?

You guys. With any beloved IP, the fans are always the most important piece of the puzzle. Sure, our dev team has spent hours revisiting the hit-anime to create a world filled with the characters and moments that we think you will love. Of course, there are multiple game modes from the endless tower to the dungeon crawls and many more, so that you can choose how to Hero for Fun. But most importantly, we are working on creating a world of One-Punch that does not disappoint the faith you heroes have given us and that means we are always listening to what our heroes are telling us about how we can be better.

What has fan reaction to One-Punch Man: Road to Heroes 2.0 been like so far?

So far, the reception has been overwhelmingly positive. With over 3 million downloads and 500,000+ active users, and an average review score of 4.5 stars and 4.2 stars on the iOS Appstore and Google Play store respectively, I think it’s safe to say that we are doing well. But these numbers aren’t the only metrics we like to use. Our ops team are active members in our gaming community listening to the feedback our gamers are giving us. You guys always want more content and more balanced gameplay, but we are thankful for these conversations. This shows that you guys love our game and want us to do better and that is the most precious fan reaction.

What do you think are the most appealing aspect of your titles for players?

The most appealing aspect of a One-Punch Man game is probably the One-Punch Man. But hey, once you get into the world of Saitama filled with all your favorite outlandish heroes, stay for the storyline, multiple game modes, and heated debates about character meta, formations, or the best waifu. What else could you really ask for? A lot of stuff, but let’s not get too greedy now.

Can you offer any hints about the next projects you are working on?

Well, I can tell you that there are other projects. And that you might like them. But everything else is a secret.
Fine. One more piece of information. You might recognize the characters from things that you’ve seen before. Actually, you tell us. What kind of games would you like to see?

The team also shared some interesting milestones the game has recently hit that show the RPG's growing popularity:

  • 22, Billion Hero Seconds accumulated.
  • 10 Million Extreme Trials Climbed
  • 1.6 Million Friends Made
  • 20,301 Guilds Created
  • 4.5 Billion One Punches Thrown.

One-Punch Man: Road to Heroes 2.0 is available now for both Android and iOS.
