Fallout Shelter Online is a sequel to the popular Fallout spin-off that will be heading for iOS and Android soon

Much like Pokemon Go, Fallout Shelter served as a reminder to the PC and console gaming audience that gaming on mobile is a thing that exists, as evident by the 10 million-plus downloads it had on Android alone.

Now, there's a sequel of sorts on the way called Fallout Shelter Online. I say 'of sorts' because it's more an expanded version of the original game that launched in China back in 2019. News of Fallout Shelter Online's impending arrival was first spotted by MMO Culture.

There are a few differences between the two such the introduction of a gacha, hero collecting system. That sentence alone is probably all the information some people need to decide on whether this is a play or pass. The characters come in different rarities with the super rare variants including the likes of Nick Valentine of Fallout 4 fame.

You'll create a team out of these different characters who will develop 'Bonds' depending on the combinations you put together. This might give you extra damage against a certain kind of enemy so it'll be important to rotate heroes depending on what you'll be facing in your current mission.

It also features a new adventure for players to embark upon, away from managing their little Vault ant farm. The journey will see you looking for the Overseer that used to be in charge of your Vault. This will take you to locales you'll be familiar with from Fallout 4 such as Red Rocket petrol station and Diamond City.

On the way you'll encounter several enemies and creatures you'll be familiar with from the main series. So you can expect to tangle with the likes of raiders, Super Mutants and Deathclaws. It certainly sounds like an expanded version of Fallout Shelter then but the promise of more IAPs than previously will likely deter some folks from playing it.

Fallout Shelter Online will be available on the App Store and Google Play when it launches. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. There's no official word on a release date but the Philippines' App Store lists it as being expected on 22nd April.
