Mario Kart Tour is now open for pre-registration on iOS and Android with a full release in September

Mario Kart Tour's long-awaited arrival to mobiles is not too far off now. After being in beta since May, the game will launch on 25th September and you can pre-register now on the App Store and Google Play.

To coincide with the release date announcement Nintendo Mobile also released a new gameplay trailer where you can see Mario and co – including Yoshi, the best character – racing around various tracks that including everything from prehistoric jungles to boulder-filled canyons.

The new trailer doesn't show us anything particularly new, but it's another excuse to take in how good Mario Kart Tour is going to look. Nintendo has never made the most graphic-intensive games but they've always had their own style that makes them look excellent and this is certainly no different.

On launch, there will be over 25 racers available, though we know Yoshi is one so the overall number is arguably irrelevant. You'll also be able to compete in over 16 cups, each with 3 different tracks to test your Mario Kart skills on.

I'm pretty excited about it, Mario Kart is one of those games I feel like everyone has played at some point in their lives, even if they never usually touch them. So, I expect this will do exceptionally well on launch. Whether or not it will stay that way I'm not sure, it will depend on how their free-to-start system works. Plus, let's not forget there's already an excellent portable version of Mario Kart on Switch.

Mario Kart Tour will be available on 25th September on iOS and Android. You can pre-register now on the App Store and Google Play. It'll be a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. According to the official site, you will require a Nintendo Account to play Mario Kart Tour, a link to get one is available there if you don't yet.
