Talking at GMGC 2014 via a translator, Tencent Games' VP Peng Lu revealed the ambition of the internet giant, which is already the biggest force in Chinese gaming - both on PC and mobile.

He announced that the company would be launching the Tencent Mobile Game Platform.

This will combine its massively popular QQ messaging channel with the massively popular WeChat mobile messaging network - which includes billing - and an Android app store.

In this way, Tencent hopes to offer a complete mobile gaming service - ranging from the casual games it currently offers on WeChat to the midcore and hardcore games, which have traditionally dominated the Chinese PC gaming market.

Lu said he expected the platform to launch with 40-50 games, the majority of which would be provided by thirdparty developers.

"Our focus is on quality," he said.

"Content will be essential for our platform's success. We must have good games. We don't care if these games are developed by us or thirdparty developers."

No date was provided for when the platform will launch.
