Loot Hero is an RPG on a straight line.

Developer Daniel Hjelm is upfront in calling it a "grindfest", too, which is a particularly apt term for the game.

The story goes that a ferocious dragon is destroying the land and has assembled an army of evil creatures to do just that.

You're a hero armed with a lance who has to bash through the evil creatures and take down the dragon.

You only have to tap the left or right side of the screen to move the knight in that direction. In terms of combat, you just run into your enemies.

Healthy outlook

The only thing you have to keep an eye on is your knight's health, which goes down every time you bash into an enemy.

Defeated enemies drop loot. Sometimes, a health potion or vial of temporary invulnerability will appear to help you out, too.

Each level will become increasingly hard as you move across it. So, to make it to the boss at the end, you'll need to spend the loot on upgrades to attack, defence, speed, and critical hits at the stores along the way.

Your knight's appearance changes with each upgrade, by the way, which is a nice touch.

Loot Hero

To defeat the harder enemies, you'll have to travel back to collect more loot so you can upgrade your stats. Hence, the "grindfest" description.

After you defeat the dragon once, the game continues at higher difficulty levels. Yep, you could probably get away with calling it an 'endless-grinder'.

Sure, that may sound unappealing. But if you're looking for a distraction from your mundane daily tasks and can't be bothered to think too much, Loot Hero should be right up your alley.

Loot Hero is available on Google Play for free [download], and from the App Store for 69p / 99c [buy].
