Japanese PS Vita gamers can now play PocketStation games via a new app
Yay?
Do you remember the PocketStation? It was a hybrid memory card / personal assistant for the PSone that Sony only ever released in Japan.
In a way, it was similar to the Dreamcast's VMU.
You could download games onto the PocketStation from PSone titles, then wander around and use some tiny buttons to play them. Super-fun.
Well, it looks like the PocketStation is making a comeback. And it's doing so in the form of a PS Vita app.
That's right - you can now use your super-expensive portable PlayStation to play some blocky LCD screen-optimised games that are more than a decade old.
Or at least you can in Japan, where PlayStation Plus subscribers can download the PocketStation app and play such highlights as Chocobo World from Final Fantasy VIII and Dokodemo Issho (which features Toro, the Sony cat).
There's no word on whether the PocketStation app will ever be available outside of Japan, but we'll keep you posted if we hear any information either way.
