Supercell provided the big funding news in Finland this week.

But it's not the only game in town, not by a long shot.

The next generation of start-ups are poking their heads through the earth, and one such is Small Giant Games.

Including senior staffers from the glory days of Habbo Hotel developer Sulake, it's just raised $750,000 (€547,000) in its seed round investment from private investors.

Perfect formed opportunities

The company's first project is already well underway too.

It's been in development for six months and is approach alpha, with a planned release schedule that will see it hit iOS and then Android in early 2014.

"We're really excited how the game is shaping up. It will introduce unique gameplay elements to a familiar genre, in a fun rescue story setting," says Small Giant's CEO Otto Nieminen.

In the meantime, Small Giant is looking to grow: seeking individuals skilled in Unity development.

"We're offering fun challenges in a great environment, spiced with lucrative incentive packages," Nieminen says.
