10 more characters we want to see in Super Smash Bros for 3DS

In an E3-themed broadcast this week, Nintendo finally lifted the veil on its all-star fighting game mash-up Super Smash Bros for 3DS.

And we got to see the new characters. Alongside familiar fighters like Mario and Link comes a cute Animal Crossing villager, Capcom mascot Mega Man, and - most bizarre of all - the fitness freak trainer from the Wii Fit games.

But we want more. We've already picked out ten dream Super Smash Bros 3DS pugilists, including Professor Layton, Shantae, and Jill Valentine, but there are always more Nintendo (and friends) characters to pine after.

So, here's another ten:

Mr Resetti (Animal Crossing, GameCube) Mr Resetti

There are a number of Animal Crossing characters who would make more sense than the fly-by-night vagabond who's currently in the frame.

Greedy Tom Nook would bury his opponents in an avalanche of ill-gotten mortgage payments, and musician K. K. Slider would force other fighters to dance to his cracking tunes.

But scariest of all is Mr Resetti. This grumpy mole man might not look too tough, but if you reset your 3DS to escape from a losing battle he will F you up, son.

Dillon (Dillon's Rolling Western, 3DS) Dillon

Dillon, an armadillo from a pair of eShop games, has two ways of dealing with foes. He can, of course, roll up into a ball and crash his armoured shell into opponents.

But when he gets outnumbered, he's just as comfortable going a bit tower defence and building a bunch of sentry guns to take out enemies for him. In Smash, Dillon's special move would be to erect gun towers around the arena.

Alucard (Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, NES) Alucard

Alucard is half-human, half-vampire, all-badass. Between his starring role in Symphony of the Night and his brief stint in Mirror of Fate, this dapper dhampir has quickly become everyone's favourite 'Vania hero.

And he'd be great in Smash, turning into a beast to wail on Mario, transforming into a cloud of mist to evade an incoming missile, or becoming a bat to fly back onto the stage.

A Castlevania character, whether it's Alucard, a Belmont, or even Dracula himself, is not out of the question. Konami has already lent one of its team - Solid Snake - to a previous Smash fest.

Dr Kawashima (Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?, DS) Dr Kawashima

By day, Dr Kawashima is a mild-mannered Japanese neuroscientist. By night, he's a terrifying polygonal head, floating in space and giving you grief for messing up your equations.

This levitating noggin would bombard Samus and Bowser with maths questions, and squish any poor saps who can't remember their multiplication tables.

Chrom (Fire Emblem: Awakening, 3DS) Chrom

He's the hero of the new Fire Emblem, the leader of the Shepherds, and a dab hand with an Exalted Falchion sword. Oh, and he's a sure bet at being invited to star in the new Smash Bros game.

Nintendo has always included Fire Emblem fighters, from series mascot Marth to Binding Blade protagonist Roy. And with the news that Awakening's strong sales gave Nintendo new faith in the Fire Emblem franchise, its obvious that Chrom has a lot of fans.

Professor E. Gadd (Luigi's Mansion, Gamecube) Professor E Gadd

Freaky science midget Gadd would be a worthy brawler, because he can put together powerful gadgets. He made Luigi's ghost-sapping vacuum cleaner, after all, and was also the brains behind FLUDD - Mario's super soaker from GameCube romp Sunshine.

In Brawl, his diminutive frame and shoddy eyesight would make him a pretty useless fist-fighter, but who knows what ridiculous weapons he's been building in that ramshackle laboratory of his?

Tempo (HarmoKnight, 3DS) Tempo

Some of the freshest and most original Nintendo characters can only be found on the eShop. Alongside Mallo and Dillon comes Tempo, a pint-size warrior with a legendary staff. As in a sceptre. Get your mind out of the gutter.

The HarmoKnight hero would perform his attacks in time to Super Smash Bros's backing music. He'll be useless on some stages, but an unbalanced killing machine on levels with high-tempo soundtracks.

Don't even try to face him on an F-Zero stage.

Elite Beat Agents (Elite Beat Agents, DS) Elite Beat Agents

The Elite Beat Agents are a no-nonsense secret agent super group, who can aid any situation with a little interpretive dance and a few slightly off re-recordings of your favourite pop songs.

When they appear on the Smash Bros battlefield, they'll be able to tag in and out when they get tired, making them an unstoppable force. Until the music stops playing. Then they're a bit rubbish.

Maxwell (Scribblenauts, DS) Maxwell

In the Scribblenauts games, Maxwell uses his magic notepad to generate any object that he dreams up. As long as its not copyrighted or a bit naughty.

This might give him a bit of an edge in Smash Bros. If you can quickly scribble "shotgun" or "jetpack" or "Cthulhu" or "giant electric badger" on the 3DS touchscreen, you'll be we'll on your way to victory.

Zero (999: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, DS) Zero

Gas mask-sporting Zero is an evil mastermind who likes to trap nine unsuspecting civilians in a bonkers Saw-like game of death, deception, and item-manipulation puzzles.

In Smash Bros, Zero would hide behind the scenery and pull the strings from a secret location. He would make platforms disappear, fill areas with nerve gas, and force his opponents to totally stop trusting one another.
