Nintendo's president and CEO Satoru Iwata has just finished hosting his company's latest Wii U-themed Nintendo Direct newscast.

Although the broadcast was primarily focused on Nintendo's home console, the Japanese company's 3DS handheld wasn't completely left out in the dark.

For example, Nintendo announced that it's entered a new partnership with Sega to publish new Sonic The Hedgehog games worldwide.

The first of these new games being an action-adventure platformer called Sonic Lost World, which will be exclusive to the Wii U and - more importantly - the 3DS.

"We're delighted to be forming this new partnership with SEGA, and bringing new games in the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise to Nintendo systems," Laurent Fischer, Nintendo's managing director of European marketing and PR, said.

Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until E3 for more details.

A couple of other tidbits

Nintendo also announced that several new Sega Game Gear titles are making their way to its increasingly popular digital eShop - in the US, at least.

These include Shining Force II: The Sword of Hajya, G-Loc Air Battle, Tails Adventure, Sonic Drift 2, and Sonic Labyrinth.

Eager to get your mitts on Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons?

You'll be pleased to read, then, that they'll both be available to download from the Nintendo eShop from May 30th, in the US. They'll set you back $4.99 each for three weeks and then $5.99 each thereafter.

No word on UK dates or prices of either Zelda or Game Gear.

Finally, Ninty announced a brand-new Puzzle Panel for Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It's available right now, in the US, by the way.
