Samsung confirms October 1st UK release date for its Galaxy Note 2 'phablet'

Samsung has announced that its Galaxy Note 2 'phablet' will be available in the UK from October 1st across all major networks.

Those interested in purchasing Sammy's new 5.5-inch tablet-meets-smartphone will be able to pick one up in less than a week, then, either in shiny Marble White or weirdly shinier Titanium Grey.

If it wasn't clear whether there was an appetite for phablets before the launch of the original Galaxy Note, 10 million sales of the device in just under a year would seem to indicate there is demand. And plenty of it.

With that slightly larger screen, the Galaxy Note 2 leans a little closer to the tablet end of the market, in truth, though in Pocket Gamer's recent hands-on preview our Jonathan noted that the improved styling made it a more comfortable phone than its predecessor at the same time. That's a neat little trick, Samsung.

The phablet is mightier than the pen

The Galaxy Note 2 ships with Android 4.1 (a.k.a. Jelly Bean), a beefy 1.6GHz quad-core processor, and an improved S Pen, which, according to Samsung, is just like using a good old-fashioned Biro on paper.

I'm expecting the competition to respond after October 1st with the announcement of Pen and Paper 2.0.
