Gears of War developer Epic Games recently optioned the rights to the Fighting Fantasy series of interactive role-playing books from co-creators Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson.

The Unreal Engine 3 developer is now using said rights in the Make Something Unreal Live development contest, which will see four fledgling studios choose one book from the fantasy series and transform it into an iOS game.

The books that have been chosen are: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, The Citadel of Chaos, Deathtrap Dungeon, and Armies of Death.

These titles, which are expected to hit the App Store sometime in spring, will be "revealed and refined" in a "real-time conclusion" at this year's Gadget Show Live consumer event, which kicks off in Birmingham, UK, on April 10th.

A dream come true

"Steve Jackson and I are delighted to see our Fighting Fantasy gamebooks being developed as iOS games by new teams of talented and enthusiastic students," Ian Livingstone, Fighting Fantasy co-creator, said.

"It will be really interesting to see how our IP will be captured and interpreted for the iOS platform."

We'll keep you updated with any new developments.
