Manufacturer Fructel has announced that its former Android-only Gametel controller peripheral is now compatible with Apple's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices.

"Gametel has proved popular among Android users but we're pleased to bring support for the Apple iPhone and iPad. Now users can experience even more immersive gameplay using the Gametel's console-style controls - freeing the touchscreen from fingers," Bo Nyman, Fructel CEO, said.

As you can see from the image below, the Gametel controller - which connects via Bluetooth - comes packing a traditional D-pad, four action buttons, Start and Select buttons, two shoulder buttons, and a spring-loaded clamp that allows you to securely dock your iPhone.

It also has a nine-hour battery life, but you can't actually see that in the photo.

The meat

Fructel's controller already supports "hundreds" of titles from the Atari's Greatest Hits [download] collection, such as Missile Commander, Asteroids, Centipede, and Super Breakout.

If you're not really a retro nut, however, the likes of Silverfish [buy], Super Crossfire HD [buy], and Terra Noctis [buy] can also take advantage of the peripheral's physical controls.

We've already been hands-on with the Gametel controller, so check that out for further details.
