Sony updates Tablet S to support PS3 controller for Android gaming
Japan receives update first
When it comes to gaming, it can be tricky to adapt traditional controller-driven titles to suit a tablet's button-free sensibilities.
Sony believes it has come up with a solution to this conundrum, though. After downloading the latest firmware update to the Sony Tablet S, you will be able to plug a PS3 controller into the Android touchscreen device and start playing games the old-fashioned way.
The update is currently live in Japan, where Sony is offering a collection of Ape Escape-themed mini-games to accompany the download.
Look, but don't touchIt seems that Tablet S users will need to connect their PS3 controller via USB to pair the devices, after which they are free to game wirelessly to their heart's content.
Unfortunately, this update does not extend to the Tablet S's 'brother', the Tablet P, leaving owners of Sony's clamshell slate jabbing at their dual-screens in jealousy.
Though it remains to be seen how many Tablet S owners will want to plug an external controller into what is ostensibly a self-contained handheld device, it's nice to know that other options are available.
