Galaxy on Fire 2 developer Fishlabs has managed to beat off competition from the likes of Crytek to pick up the 'Best Studio 2011' award at yesterday's German Developers Award 2011 ceremony.

During his acceptance speech, Fishlabs CEO Michael Schade was quick to thank his entire team, "not only for the development of truly outstanding mobile games, but also for sticking with us in good times and bad times alike".

Schade also showed his appreciation for Apple's late co-founder Steve Jobs, saying that "without [him] we would not be where we are today".

"He created a revolutionary gaming platform, whose enormous flexibility and broad reach are absolutely unrivalled and whose importance for a studio like us can hardly be overestimated."

Top of the pile

Hamburg-based Fishlabs was praised for the "high quality 3D mobile games" that have resulted in the company becoming one of the "most popular games studios on a national and international level".

The company's standout title, Galaxy on Fire 2, earned a prestigious Pocket Gamer Silver Award on its iOS release, with Tracy Erickson calling it "a wonderfully varied, in-depth action-adventure game".
