Here at Pocket Gamer, we were initially impressed with the Nintendo 3DS eShop - a clear step in the right direction after the DSi online store.

However, over the months since launch it's become obvious that it doesn't matter how good your store looks or functions if you don't actually have any content to fill it.

Now it sounds like Nintendo is finally stepping up its game where online content is concerned, confirming that the eShop will be updated this November to allow for DLC and demos for specific releases.

You'll also be able to download content via the eShop even when your 3DS is in sleep mode.

Finally, the company revealed that there are plans to make the eShop available to browse via the web and smartphones, in an attempt to make it more visible to the public.

Nintendo president Iwata explained, "Even if a software title receives an incredible review, the majority of people will not know about it unless they access the Nintendo eShop with their Nintendo 3DS system."

"We would like to solve this issue by making the Nintendo eShop accessible via PCs and smartphones as well."

These features won't be part of the November update. However, we will be getting the aforementioned 3D video recording and new messaging service as part of this update.
