Lodsys now suing Rovio, EA, Atari, Square Enix, and Take-Two Interactive over alleged patent infringements
It's heating up
It looks like the battle between Apple and Lodsys is about to heat up once again, with the patent company filing suits against Angry Birds creator Rovio, and a host of other big name studios.
Angry Birds (iOS and Android), EA's The Sims 3 (iPhone), Atari's Greatest Hits (iPhone and iPad), Square Enix's Big Hit Baseball (iPhone and iPad), and Take-Two's 2K Sports NHL 2K11 (iPhone) are allegedly infringing on patents owned by Lodsys.
Strangely, one of the original seven developers - Vietnamese company Wulven Games - has been removed from the lawsuit, bringing the current number of defendants up to 11.
All in the pastBack in May Apple intervened in the lawsuit, with a second company - customer satisfaction survey company ForeSee Results - requesting a declaratory judgment against Lodsys.
Unfortunately, neither threat seems to have deterred the company from pursuing developers.
Lodsys is now suing a total of 37 defendants, including big names such as Best Buy and Adidas, so it's not scared of jumping into the deep end.
This could be a long and (possibly) bloody battle.
