Last week we announced that Tracy Erickson, Pocket Gamer's long-serving and formidable Apple editor, was leaving.

We were so dispirited by the news that we couldn't even bring ourselves to give a toss about the Royal Wedding.

But as one door closes, another opens. Tracy may have left the building, but into his former office strides the awesome figure of gaming journalist and author Damon Brown, Pocket Gamer's new Apple editor and US correspondent.

San Francisco's own Damon Brown is one of the most experienced mobile gaming journalists in the business, having covered the industry for almost a decade.

In 2003 he was Wireless Gaming Review's first contributor, and since 2009 he's been mobile editor at About.com. His books include Damon Brown's Simple Guide to the iPad and, ahem, Porn & Pong: How Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider and other Sexy Games Changed Our Culture.

He's also written about games, technology, and music for Playboy, EGM, GameSpot, Family Circle, The Source, SPIN, New York Post, CNN.com, MSN.com, and others.

“I'm super excited to join Pocket Gamer. I've always been a big champion of mobile gaming, and it is the perfect time to show fellow hardcore gamers, as well as the mainstream public, how important mobile games are to the entertainment world. Pocket Gamer has been a leader in this arena,” he said.

Pocket Gamer editor Rob Hearn said, “We're thrilled to have Damon on the team. He's knowledgeable, highly experienced, well-connected, and we think he might be able to get one or two of us into the Playboy mansion.

“It's going to be a good year for Pocket Gamer.”

Like Tracy before him, Damon will be exploring the vast ecosystem of iPhone gaming, uncovering the most interesting specimens and bringing them to your attention. If you have a game you think Damon should know about, drop him a line at damon.brown [at] steelmedia.co.uk.
