Sony has confirmed that production of the troubled PSPgo handheld has halted, with no future stock to be supplied.

Rumours were circulating yesterday after a Japanese Sony Shop employee said "Sony has confirmed to [my] sales manager that production on the troubled portable system is indeed ceasing."

The PSPgo has also disappeared from the Japanese Sony Store, with no stock listed for the device elsewhere.

Sony has now given a statement to Japanese site AV Watch, stating that the PSPgo is no longer in production. The company says that it will instead "focus on the NGP".

The statement noted that production of the original PSP-3000 will carry on, as the handheld "continues to sell".
