First Xperia Play 'PlayStation Phone' commercial hits web
Promo begins before device even unveiled
Any lingering suggestion that Sony Ericsson's yet to be confirmed Xperia Play was going to come emblazoned in PlayStation paraphernalia has finally been dissolved by the appearance of what's believed to be the first television ad for the handset.
The commercial depicts the Android robot having human thumbs stitched onto his hands, with the promo declaring that Google's platform is finally 'ready to play'.
All go for Android
Indeed, many commentators believe the device formally known as PlayStation Phone – which insiders expect to be officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress later in February – could bolster Android's assault on iPhone, thanks to its focus on gaming.
It's assumed Xperia Play will be one of several top end Android handsets to tap into Sony's recently unveiled PlayStation Suite, which will make both key releases from the original PlayStation's line up and fresh titles available for download.
However, it's notable that the ad in question makes only passing reference to PlayStation - a 'PlayStation Certified' badge appearing in the top right at the end of the spot - with Sony Ericsson's logo taking centre stage, instead.
UPDATE: PlayStation Lifestyle reports the ad could be due to make its debut in the US during tomorrow's Super Bowl.
