I'm not a lawyer, neither are you. Fact is trademark law is very complex and whatever we personally think is true often isn't when it comes to what a judge might think.

Anyhow, it seems that what we're calling Doodlegate - the potential culling of games on the App Store using the term Doodle - has been called off.

Double jeopardy

Igor Pusenjak, of Doodle Jump developer Lima Sky, has put out a statement, withdrawing the company's claim over the term 'Doodle'.

It's clearly not a black and white issue though.

Lima Sky has a trademark over the title Doodle Jump, and one for the character of The Doodler.

However, it appears that the conflict over the term 'Doodle' only came about because another developer - Accelerato - was itself trying to trademark the term.

Either way, Igor puts it best when he says; "At the end of the day, I am a game developer, just like many of you. I want to spend my days creating great games, and not dealing with the legal issues."
