PopCap still working on Android games

Developer reassurance as Windows Phone 7 jumps the queue

PopCap has confirmed that it still intends to bring its games to the Android platform.

Four months on from confirming support for Android in 2010, the Plants vs Zombies developer has still not announced any games.

After PopCap advertised Bejeweled Live for Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 7 platform via Twitter, some Android users were a bit narked. Seeking to placate them, PopCap swiftly followed up the WP7 announcement with these words:

“Android users - we are working on some games for your platform! promise!”

So why the delay? Judging by the woes experienced in recent times by Angry Birds developer Rovio, we’d hazard a guess that it’s either a hardware fragmentation issue or cautiousness over Android Market. Possibly both. Possibly neither.

Until we get some solid details concerning PopCap’s plans for the platform, it’s only a small comfort to know that Android users haven’t been forgotten by the house of Bejeweled and Peggle.
