Android Gingerbread update due in Q4 2010
Catch it then
Over in San Francisco at its annual two-day I/O (Innovation in the Open) conference, Google today is expected to announce the latest iteration of its mobile operating system, Android 2.2, aka FroYo.
Before you have a chance to swallow that news, though, a date for the successor to FroYo has already been outed.
According to an FAQ page for the new Google-backed WebM video format project, the next major version of Android, codenamed 'Gingerbread', is “currently planned for Q4, 2010”.
Whether Gingerbread will in fact become Android 2.3, 2.5, 2.6, or 3.0 is still open to question.
If I were a betting man, I’d suggest we’ll get confirmation in October, possibly around Halloween…
