John Carmack, co-creator of Doom, has told Kotaku that he would like to extend upcoming post apocalyptic shooter Rage to the iPhone, after accepting his Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 Game Developer Choice Awards.

This isn't the first time Carmack has indicated that a Rage iPhone game may be in the works. Last year he wrote on his blog, "I want to work on a Rage themed game to coincide with Rage's release, but we don't have a firm direction or team chosen for it."

Carmack has been a big proponent of the iPhone, having created Doom Resurrection for the device as well as porting across some of id Software's biggest retro and mobile titles. He told Kotaku that "there's this wonderful enjoyment of doing an iPhone game where it's basically me going off some place and doing all the programming work myself."

And while he hasn't had his hands on the shiny new tablet yet, Carmack is excited by the iPad and would like to see some version of Rage appear on it. "We are certainly expecting to have our Rage title on iPhone and iPad."

Rage is expected on the home consoles this year.
