You'll forgive PopCap employees the celebrations they're likely to have tonight, given that the company has just announced its recent – and rather splendid – Plants vs Zombies iPhone game has become the format's fastest-selling title yet.

How fast? Well, it's managed over 300,000 units in nine days.

In fact, it held the top position in the paid and top grossing charts within 24 hours of launch and to date it's grossed over $1 million.

Not bad, eh?

"Plants vs Zombies is our latest major franchise to make the jump to iPhone, and from the early customer and critical feedback it appears to be a great adaptation of the game," said Andrew Stein, director of mobile business development at PopCap.

"There's always a concern when bringing a computer game to a mobile, pocket-sized device that something will get lost in the process, but in this case the overwhelming consensus is that Plants vs Zombies is even more fun on the smaller touch screen"

The good news for PopCap continues, though, because it turns out that Bejeweled 2 also has something to shout about – it's become the first paid app to break the 3 million unit mark.

You could be thinking that you needn't add to the above numbers, but if you've not played either game yet, we strongly suggest you try them out. There's a reason why they're so popular, after all.
