Gears of War studio Epic Games's Mark Rein: "I think iPad will be great for gaming"
Epic Games had a front row seat at iPad unveiling
Kotaku managed to get a few words with Epic Games vice president Mark Rein at last night's unveiling of the Apple iPad, and it seems the Gear of War creator was more than a little impressed with the big touchscreen beauty.
"I think iPad will be great for gaming and I suspect we'll see many games that make use of the differentiated form factor of the iPad," said Rein.
Epic Games's Unreal Engine was recently ported to the iPhone 3GS with considerable success, and it's been suggested that the popular game development platform could become an industry standard for creating action and FPS games on the platform.
With the extra silicon oomph and bigger, higher resolution screen of the iPad in front of the Unreal Engine, Rein & Co. could put out some pretty spectacular games. Getting in on the iPad ground floor with a powerful game engine like UT3's could be a very wise move for the company.
"Apple has done a great job at constantly improving the user experience on Mac and iPhone so I can only imagine where this platform can go in the future," concludes Rein, not quite letting on about Epic's iPad plans.
We'll hear soon enough, I'm sure.
