One more reason not to buy a PSPgo yet

Joystiq astutely noticed that several high-profile PSP games are currently only available on the shop shelves, with no presence as a digital download on the PlayStation Store.

"So what?" you might ask. Well, these are games that were released after the launch of Sony's UMD-less handheld hardware update, the PSPgo.

Undead Knights, Naruto Shippuden: Legends: Akatsuki Rising, NBA 2K10, Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes and Cars: Race O Rama are all on sale now for Sony's older range of PSPs, though the lack of digital counterparts means that PSPgo owners can't play them.

On top of this, it seems that Sony has made no requirement for its thirdparty developers to make digital download versions of their games available.

"It's up to individual third parties to decide if and when to publish their UMD releases on PSN," says SCEA's director of PlayStation Network operations Eric Lempel.

While this is an admirable and uncharacteristically tolerant attitude toward developers, it's hardly going to endear Sony and its expensive new hardware to consumers who could buy a UMD-capable PSP-3000 substantially cheaper.

It makes sense for UMD developers to also release on PSN, but until Sony makes it a requirement, this oversight is one more reason not to buy a PSPgo just yet.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
