The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road continues Dorothy's bizarre adventure on DS

With courage that would make the Lion envious, US publisher XSEED Games has announced that it will bring Japanese RPG The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road stateside this autumn.

The extended adventure continues from the classic film when Dorothy and tiny canine pal Toto take up a new mission following their arrival at the Emerald City. Instead of heading back to Kansas with three clicks of her ruby red heels, Dorothy takes to battling a quartet of evil witches before being allowed to go home.

3D graphics and total stylus control mark this unlikely adventure that rewrites the ending to the 1939 film. Everything is controlled via the stylus including turn-based battles played from the first-person.

Exploring the yellow brick road is done using a track ball on the touchscreen. Flicking it with your stylus moves Dorothy and crew. Notable characters like the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion will make playable appearances; Toto, however, is relegated to sidekick, non-playable status.

Hopefully the game yields entertaining gameplay when it arrives in the fall, as first impressions of Beyond the Yellow Brick Road leave us with mellow expectations.
