DSi no longer piracy free

Or, at least, there’s now a working flash cart (not necessarily the same thing)

During the DS hardware update, Nintendo took the opportunity to block the use of the slew of DS flash carts out there, and most ceased to work in the DSi. Some were even blocked by the Japanese courts in an effort to curtail DS piracy.

Well, it looks like the dream didn’t last too long for Nintendo, as the Supercard DSONEi has just been released. It’s not as ‘one click’ as the old DS carts were, as Nintendo can be ready on the ball with the DSi and update the firmware to once again block certain ROMs from running from the cart, but the Supercard team is apparently just as keen.

So we can expect a merry dance of firmware updates for both the DSi and the Supercard DSONEi, as each attempts to work around the other, but at least homebrew users can rejoice. For a while.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
