Nintendo: DSi an evolution, not a replacement
It’s evolution, not revolution
According to Eurogamer, Nintendo has said it’s got no intention of giving the DSi a big launch event, since the console is 'an evolution of the hardware - and not a replacement'.
Despite this magnanimous announcement, it seems 200 GameStation, 55 Game and a handful of HMV stores will be opening at midnight on Thursday for (very) early adopters and gaming insomniacs to get their new Nintendo hardware.
And while there might not be a launch event, Nintendo did just announce its biggest ever handheld marketing campaign, with promotions planned right up until the 2009 Christmas push.
Should you not fancy getting up at dawn’s crack to go and buy a DSi, there’s apparently no need to worry about stock shortages. ShopTo.net says Nintendo has made enough DSis available to meet the UK’s launch day stock requirements, alongside the pre-orders.
"I believe that this time Nintendo has managed to predict sell-out units and manufacture the right quantity for day-one," ShopTo’s Igor Cipolletta told Eurogamer.
No need to worry about stampedes in the game shops, at least.
