GDC ’09: ngmoco’s Neil Young wishes he'd made Fieldrunners

ngmoco is undeniably one of the iPhone’s hottest game companies, and was quite unique in the way it decided to focus entirely on Apple’s platform - something very few studios were doing at the time.

Its CEO and founder Neil Young chatted with Joystiq at GDC ’09, and gave them a list of four game he wished he’d made for the iPhone.

At the top of his list was Fieldrunners, which he showed no hesitation in picking off his handset’s screen. Next up was Ocarina, which isn’t quite a game but we get what he means, followed by Pocket God. The last two he qualified by suggesting he’d have done things differently, however.

Finally, he lands on Aurora Feint as the fourth game he wishes ngmoco had made. We must admit, all these games are on our iPhones, and get a lot of play, so Young remains a righteous dude in our gaming opinion.

That said, his credibility slips a fraction when he mentions that ngmoco had the opportunity to publish Zen Bound, but passed on the offer. Ouch.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
