Kotaku has published its weekly Japanese hardware sales charts, and almost everything seems to be on a downturn - everything except the DSi, that is.

Nintendo's handheld hardware update seems to be luring in the Japanese pocket gamers quite admirably, with the better half of 127,000 units flying off the shelves. These figures are a good sign, and follow on from the strength of the initial launch, which saw 200,000 units sell out just a few weeks ago.

And considering Christmas is more of a curiosity than a national holiday, these sales figures aren't really attached to gift buying, making them even more encouraging for the Big N.

Could the boost in sales be anything to do with the DSi getting its first working flash cart? Nah.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
