It's not the most surprising news considering many thousands of DSis had been pre-ordered even before the handheld hit the shops last Saturday, November 1st.

But it's now official - DSi has sold out in Japan.

Japan news network JCN has reported that of the 200,000 units of the updated DS Nintendo made available to retailers for the launch, 170,779 were sold within the first two days.

Within four days, remaining stocks had been snapped up and now shop shelves the country over are empty of the DSi.

Nintendo however is promising a second shipment of 100,000 consoles shortly - by Friday, November 7th. So Japan can enjoy a second weekend of frenzied console buying.

We'll have a review of the DSi up for you shortly. Just as soon as our freelancer takes a break from manipulating photos of his face with the in-built photo suite long enough to write it.
