R4 carts, and pretty much every other piracy device you can think of, won't work with the DSi. How do we know? Because joystiq has posted an unnecessarily long video of a man with an unhealthily large collection of these devices (27 different ones in total) sticking them one at a time into his DSi and, for every one, coming up with a screen full of Japanese text, which presumably reads something along the lines of "ha - we don't think so Mr Pirate."

Of course, as we reported yesterday, hackers have already found a way of fiddling with the DSi, so it's quite likely that at some point we can expect updated models of these carts to appear that will work with Nintendo's new hardware. In fact, some predict DSi will be even easier to hack thanks to its SD slot, which will render these flash carts obsolete anyway.

For the time-being though, it looks like the DSi piracy fight is a draw - pirates - 1, Nintendo - 1. Now, if you've read this and still have 13 minutes spare, head over and watch the video of the man and his collection of DS flash carts, because they really are a sight to behold.
