Friday Freebie

Let's get straight into this. Are you bored of looking at your bland pastel coloured PSP screen but can't find themes that aren't about one of the following?

a) A super geeky exercise in ironic branding (i.e. an Xbox 360 or Apple Leopard theme.)
b) Women depicted in what can politely be described as come hither poses and outfits.
c) Those lurid neon muscle cars that do the majority of the acting in classic films such as The Fast and the Furious *scoff*.

For some reason, in nature an ability to code custom PSP themes is often paired with the interests of a 15 year old boy. Luckily for all of you high cultured, well-adjusted adults out there who just long for a Johann Sebastian Bach PSP theme to admire before you merrily indulge in some mindless carnage in Vice City Stories, help is at hand.

Sony has just released the official PSP Theme Toolbox (sadly Windows only) so that mere mortals can now create their very own custom themes. Everything you need is available over at the Official PlayStation Blog along with a pretty thorough tutorial so now there's nothing stopping you.

As for the DS, well what are your thoughts on dodgeball? In fact that's not even specific enough; what are your thoughts on the game Super Dodgeball on the NES? Remember it? Good, now think back to it's soundtrack, you there yet? Now imagine that soundtrack remixed and mashed up by an army of DJs and musical types from around the world.

In fact, don't bother imagining it, you can just go here and get the genuine article, which has been created as a sort of unofficial celebration of the game's re-release on the Nintendo DS.

The wantonly esoteric but surprisingly good EP (which by transcending both the obscure alternative music and classic video games genres must be a contender for most niche release in history) can be downloaded in full as a .zip file from the project's fantastically named 'no balls, no glory' official site.

And as for mobiles, there have been several new additions to our Demos section over the past few weeks and if you haven't been over to 123play.com yet (featured in the Friday Freebie a while back) then you ought to give it a look, as doing so might just land you an opportunity to win a brand spanking new Nokia N81.

That's it for now, be sure to click 'Track It!' in order to catch next week's offering and in the meantime, enjoy!
