If snooker is the table sport of gentlemen - black suits and polished shoes - pool feels more like the disowned, wayward son you find face down in a pile of empty Bud bottles and liberally sprinkled with fag ash.

Perhaps that's part the fun dangled in front of you in Midas' World Cup of Pool, a game that features 32 of the world's best pool players, although despite including Earl 'The Pearl' Strickland and current World Champion Daryl 'the Dazzler' Peach presumably doesn't include a bonus 'Earl Strickland is the scum of the Earth' post-match interview easter egg. Other licensed players include Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante and Ronnie 'the Rocket' O'Sullivan.

In terms of control, the game makes most use of the DS' screens by showing the table - in either wide or close angles - on the top while enabling you to use your stylus as a cue on the touchscreen.

As for modes, 8-ball, 9-ball, Killer and snooker are on offer, while the career option is backed with a Hall of Fame trophy room as well as unlockables such as new cues, ball sets and table designs. Multiplayer is included as a local wireless option.

World Cup of Pool is due for release on April 18th, priced £19.99.
