The geniuses behind the horror-classic Resident Evil and beat 'em-up Street Fighter series are turning their attention to our pocket gaming world with three new games set to arrive early next year.

First up is some great news for pocket pugilists, who've quite frankly been crying out for a proper fighting game on their PSP, in the form of Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX. With no less than 37 characters to chose from (including four fresh faces amidst our well-worn favourites), a wide variety of games modes (including a tag-team style variable battle mode) and an awesome sounding 8-player wi-fi option, Alpha 3 Max looks well set to deliver on Capcom's promise of making the ultimate 2D fighter for the PSP. In fact, it sounds so good we're not at all sure how we're going to hold on 'til February for it!

Hopefully the arrival of role playing game Breath of Fire III will help to take our minds off the wait. Casting you in the role of Ryu, a young warrior embarking on a quest to "discover his ancestry and understand the dragon power that has awoken within him" (well, you can't be too careful these days, can you), this graphically-enhanced version of the PlayStation 2 game will cover all the usual problem solving, random fighting, special-item finding bases you'd expect. It'll also include a funky little bonus fishing game to break up the action, which you'll generously be able to share with PSP owning friends who don't have the game.

Last and but by no means least, there's yet more RPG action in the form of Monster Hunter Freedom in which you are tasked with the job of roaming some dramatic environments to seek out and destroy some even more impressive monsters. The game is based upon the PS2 title Monster Hunter G, but as this never saw the light of day outside of Japan it's a clean slate for European pocket gamers. You can bank on plenty of statistic-building and weapon-upgrading as you progress through the various quests in either single or multiplayer mode (catering for up to 4 players over wi-fi)and you can also expect some intriguing new elements to interrupt the action. The ability to create new weapons by defeating certain monsters and discovering special items sounds intriguing, as does the Farm, a small piece of land where you can harvest wild mushrooms, mine ore, catch insects and indulge in a host of mini-games to alleviate the strains of a hard day's monster-bashing.

However, our favourite new addition has to be the Felyne Kitchen, in which you can train a race of creatures called the Felynes to cook for you and your colleagues. The closer your chefs approach to Gordon Ramsay-esque levels of cuisine, the bigger a boost your stats will get from eating their meals. If they don't come up to snuff you get to bawl them out and sack them on the spot! Your chance to recreate 'Hell's Kitchen' and take down some troublesome monsters arrives in March.
