ARIDA: Backland's Awakening launches for iOS at long last

Indie developer Aoca Game Lab has launched the iOS version of Arida, an adventure game that uses the Brazilian backlands as its setting. After originally releasing on PC in 2019 and Android in June, the final version of the game has, at long last, launched onto yet another platform, opening up the options to experience this lovely little title for everyone.

Arida is both an adventure experience at its core but also dabbles in some survival elements too. Given the game takes place within desert-like backlands, your options for hunger and thirst management are pretty limited unless you can become a resourceful player and use all of the fauna and flora at your disposal to get the nutrients you need to survive.

With these survival elements in mind, it’s important to remember that this is much more a simulator than it is what has become the regular for survival games lately. This is no Don’t Starve or Terraria where there are a ton of enemies chasing after you but is instead much more peaceful in the vein of something like Forager.

On top of this, Arida is something of an educational experience too. As you traverse this rarely trodden land, you’ll come across newspaper clippings and notes of all sorts, each with its own story to tell that is related to Brazilian folklore or history in one way or another. This is a really cool and interactive way to discover a lot of new pieces of information in an area that is almost never utilized within games, so you’ll be getting a surely unique experience.

With the primary goal of reuniting the protagonist of the story with her parents by traversing this harsh environment, Arida also pulls on the heartstrings a good bit too, so expect an emotional tale to be told before your eyes.

If all of that sounds up your alley, you can give Arida a shot by purchasing it at either of the links below this article!
