Take a look at Arecibo Man, Madgarden's upcoming chaotic retro-style shooter for iOS
Shooting swords
Arecibo Man looks exactly the right concoction of retro spirit and chaotic 2D shooter that I'm after right now.
It's not too surprising, then, that it's the the next game from Madgarden.
Yep, that's the studio behind PG favourites such as Chillaxian, Punch Quest, FlapThulu, and the fantastic-looking Death Road to Canada.
Inspired by the arcade shooter classics like Robotron and Bezerk, Arecibo Man is a chaotic top-down shooter.
It'd be right at home on an '80s arcade cabinet. Well, it would be if one of those old machines could handle all the modern, fancy effects and smooth gameplay.
Other than the bright colours, effervescent particle effects, and bytebeat sounds; it has you shooting swords. Yep - streams of swords.
Take a look at it in the new trailer below that was released just yesterday.
This trailer was made to showcase the new enemies (including a tank), particles, and sounds recently added.
"Still lots of waves and rooms to design, balancing to do," Madgarden notes in the video's description.
So that means there's no telling when Arecibo Man is going to be ready. Not any time soon, presumably.
At least we know it will be coming to iOS when it is finished. We'll let you know when you can get your hands on it.
