Arcadium: Space Odyssey is a Survivors-inspired space shooter
Use the force, Luke

- Arcadium: Space Odyssey is out now on iOS and Android
- It offers a top-down space shooter experience
- Zap your way through opponents and fly too close to the sun (literally)
The space shooter has a respected reputation in gaming, so it's no surprise we're seeing fresh twists on the genre even this far down the line. This is especially the case with top-down space shooter Arcadium, which is out now in early access on Android and TestFlight on iOS.
It's not hard to see where Arcadium draws its inspiration from in a more modern form, as this is clearly a riff on the Vampire Survivors formula. However, Arcadium also adds plenty of twists of its own with a mixture of simple Space Invaders-inspired player ships and enemies for you to weave and blast your way through.
Not only that, but those lushly rendered pixel planets aren't just background decoration either, as going towards them will allow you to harvest resources that let you further upgrade your ship, which itself can be customised in a myriad of different ways.

Arcadium also uses the space setting to its advantage. You're not just flitting over a velvety background full of white dots. Because, be it discovering a variety of unnatural objects or even diving close to a burning sun, you can explore and navigate the astral void while discovering ways to turn it to your advantage (or have it turn to your detriment).
Naturally, if you're wondering about the more functionality-based features, you'll be glad to know that Arcadium supports landscape and portrait mode, while promising plenty of material for replayability. So if you're looking for a more astral take on the Survivors format, maybe Arcadium is one to watch?
Although it's not hard to see why so many releases are taking inspiration from Vampire Survivors, it's not the only game in town when it comes to bullet heaven (literally in this case). So why not check out our list of the top 7 games like Vampire Survivors to find out more?
