Apple unveils their feature-packed new Games App at WWDC25

• Apple have finally unveiled their new Games App in full
• It includes social features, discoverability and in-app events
• Over the coming months we're likely to see how well this shakes up gaming for iOS players

I wouldn't think it's unfair to say that Apple has not always been helpful with discovering new releases on mobile. The iOS App Store has always had an all-in-one approach that makes finding anything outside of more typical apps difficult. But now, Apple are finally set to rectify this with the debut of their hotly anticipated Games App at WWDC25!

How does the Games App work? Well, as you might expect, this is all about leaderboards, achievements, discovering new releases, and otherwise just improving our gaming experience on iOS. Developers will need to integrate their releases with the Games App, but this lets them enable achievements, leaderboards, challenges and other ways to keep us invested.

For those who play on Android, many of these features will already be familiar, but the benefit of the Games App is the standalone focus. Now, iOS users have an easy way to play with their friends, discover new things to play and enjoy a gaming-focused experience, something no doubt exciting for developers too.

Game Central

While it may typically be hard to summon up enthusiasm for something like this, I've no doubt many people are breathing a sigh of relief. For some, it may have felt that Apple's holistic approach to the App Store has left players feeling out in the cold, jammed in with all the other apps and features.

The Game Center, meanwhile, offers fun new ways for us not only to interact with one another but also a bold new frontier for how developers on one of the world's largest mobile OS will be able to showcase their releases.
