Ancient Olympics throws, vaults and sprints onto mobile
Like the real thing, this is probably the first of many such games

Considering the Beijing Olympic Games are but months away, it's surprising that there haven't been more Olympic-themed mobile games announced on the run up to the run up to lighting of the torch (see what we did there?).
That's probably a statement we'll come to rue before 2008 is out, but that doesn't mean that for the meantime we're not happy to mark the arrival of one of the first to step up to the starting block.
Set in ancient Greece, Ancient Olympics is a cartoonish casual take on the time-honoured event, featuring an assortment of gaudy and clownish caricatured athletes and an array of events to compete in.
So far we can confirm there's a 100-meter sprint, 11-meter hurdles and a hammer throwing event, while the screenshots also show long jump and javelin affairs. Given that the developer has seen fit to include full Tournament and Training modes, we're hopeful that there are a few other unannounced events to compete in in order to justify such a structure.
Interestingly there is also talk of a Bluetooth multiplayer mode, something too rare in mobile gaming and which could prove to be a serious boost to the final release.
We haven't previously heard much about the Spain-based developer, Mayhem Studio, but are looking forward to putting this promising looking title through its paces when we get a hold of a copy.
