The Apes have turned against each other, murdering for more territorial gains and to win the space race. You might’ve stumbled into this list while searching for the best fighter to recruit, so we’ve got your back.

1
Maximus – The best conqueror

Maximus - fighter in Age of Apes If you’re somebody who likes to go all out inside your enemy’s city, then you will love Maximus. Being a legendary tier fighter, this guy has all the good stats you want - high attack, high attack speed, and some amazing brawling capabilities. He uses an extraordinarily large dumbbell to quash his opponents, something even the most hard-core weightlifters will shy away from. With him wielding a big fat shield, you might be surprised by how aggressive this guy can get on the battlefield.

Maximus is often recommended to players who like the Siege playstyle, and we cannot agree more. The best part of it all is that he’s completely free to obtain, provided you fill in some basic requirements.

He brings a ton of damage to the table with his active ability Devastating Blow. The ability does live up to its name, as it strikes down heavily against 3 enemy troops in a circular area. Maximus is called the “Siegelord” due to his passive ability Thrill of Battle. This passive empowers the troops he commands to have a higher chance of dealing more damage towards enemy cities. Further, the troops can also get some extra healing along the way when they attack cities.

Maximus also rewards diversity among troops, as his 2nd passive Siege Commander provides extra Attack and Defence when you have 3 or more different types of troops. Let’s not forget the moral boost he provides with his Revitalizing Presence skill, increasing troops’ Attack and Attack Speed when their health falls below 50%.

2
Rams – The best defender

Best Defender in Age of Apes - Rams Rams is probably going to be your top choice if you’re somebody who’s not actively looking to demolish other player’s homes. Instead, he works best when assigned to defend your own home. He has ample amounts of ammunition in his arsenal, with a focus on making sure the violence does not escalate from the enemy’s side. Bearing two heavy iron shields as his defence, he’s also well-versed in technological developments.

Rams is often considered as more of a defender than an attacker, resulting in an entire playstyle created around him. Sadly, he’s one tough nut to obtain, being a legendary tier fighter. Still, if you manage to obtain him, don't waste this opportunity to learn more about Rams as we delve deeper into his skill sets.

Rams’ active ability Infallible allows him to mitigate any amount of incoming damage for a short duration. This ability proves to be quite useful when used at the right time, such as when the enemies are gearing up for a massive siege attack. His passive Eye for an Eye increases the Attack of troops commanded by him - pretty crucial when defending against overpowered enemies.

Additionally, Rams’ 2nd passive Few Against Many promotes damage mitigation and the defence capabilities of his troops. On the other hand, troops under him gain even more Attack and normal attack damage with his 3rd passive Critical Comeback. A trump card held by Rams experts is the talent skill Military Might, which temporarily increases troop capacity.

3
Duke Sean – The best ranger

Best Ranger in Age of Apes - Duke Sean Helped by his loyal pet dog, Duke Sean is the perfect case of an offensive ranger who knows no limits to destruction. If you’re somebody who loves to invade, then you’re going to love Duke.

Don't worry - he’s not a classic case of all brawns and no brains. Duke can help troops as well by healing their wounds and boosting their combative capabilities. Much like our other candidates, Duke Sean is another legendary tier fighter.

Look no further if you’re trying to torment hordes of enemies for a long duration of time. Duke Sean can inflict continuous damage to enemies thanks to his active ability Steel Bite. Duke also prefers having shooter-type troops under his command, providing them with extra health to sustain some blows. His passive Shining Distraction states that the defence of all troops under him gets increased permanently.

Striving to be the last shooter-type commander in the game, Duke Sean boasts increased attack and normal attack damage provisions to shooters under his command. Sadly, this effect only applies when the enemy is a Hitter-type troop. The last bullet in his gun, his passive Deadly Trap, states that all troops under his command get permanently increased skill damage.

Conclusion – Finding the best fighter

Putting an end to this debate means we have to take a side among the 3 candidates. The reason we chose those 3 fighters specifically was because each of them excels at what they do. Rams is a great siege defender, Maximus is the best siege offensive fighter, and Duke Sean puts out more of a balanced front. I think Maximus reigns supreme as the best fighter in Age of Apes. He has a high skill ceiling and can be abused in multiple PvP game modes. Further, Maximus can also double down as a counter-siege offensive commander, unlike what Rams can do. Duke Sean is out of the picture due to his over-reliance on only shooter-type troops.
