Hey, remember Zaxxon?

You'll only answer 'yes' if you're old enough to have been stood in an arcade 30 years ago, or if you played one of the game's many home ports in the late '80s and early '90s.

Sega's classic isometric shooter Zaxxon was pretty groundbreaking when it landed in arcades in 1982. It featured flashy 3D isometric graphics and - can you imagine?! - shadow effects.

Some 30 years later, Sega is resurrecting the franchise on Android and iOS. Rather than give us a lazy port, though, it's cooking up a completely new game for a new generation.

That was TOO close

Zaxxon Escape appears to be a rather attractive 3D shooter. We say 'appears' because there's precious little information surrounding the new game - just a couple of screenshots and a tiny snippet of footage at this point.

From the trailer itself, we can gather that you view your futuristic star fighter from behind, and fly through a series of bum-clenchingly tight access tunnels. You know, like the Death Star run in Return of the Jedi.

While it's skimping on the details somewhat, Sega has written a nice little nostalgia piece on Zaxxon and its many ports on its official blog.

As for when we'll be seeing Zaxxon Escape, all we know is that it'll be coming to Android and iOS "soon".

Here's that teaser trailer, by the way.
