Russian publisher Game Insight has unveiled its upcoming sci-fi turn-based strategy game X-Mercs: Invasion.

The use of the 'X' in X-Mercs: Invasion's title can't be accidental. This upcoming iOS game is quite clearly an 'homage' to XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

As such, you play the leader of a military company. You have to form a team of tooled-up professional soldiers to fulfil contracts.

The Earth in X-Mercs's fiction has been ravaged by newly discovered Advinite crystals, you see. Indigenous monsters have been created in the chaos, aliens have invaded, and humans are seeking sanctuary.

Those who can fight the threat in the ruined cities, then, are paid well.

To take on the ever-evolving beasts and their destructive technology, you have to use your money to construct bases and fortify your base.

This gives you access to tougher units and better tech, a.k.a. the key to victory. Contracts aren't just drawn up by humans, mind. It's up to you whom you fight for here, shaping the world in the process.

You can co-operate and learn from the aliens, or study the tech left by their dead and turn it against them. It's entirely up to you.

X-Mercs: Invasion will be heading to the App Store soon. You can find more information about it on its website.
