Wingspan is soon launching its second content update that takes players to the Oceania region
Wingspan, the relaxing bird-collecting card game, took players to Europe a few months ago. The birds are now migrating towards the Southern Hemisphere as the Oceania Expansion launches soon. Players will learn a lot about the birds from Australia and New Zealand while making use of the new resources and mechanics to make the wildlife preservation experience even more immersive.
Wingspan’s Oceania Expansion, which is the game’s second major content update, introduces nearly 100 new birds native to Australia and New Zealand. Players will be able to learn all about them through their cards that have interesting titbits about them while also playing recordings of their original songs. A lot of these possess new yellow end-game abilities that activate once the game ends.
The update brings a brand new food type as well - nectar. Oceanic birds love their nectar and use it as one of their primary nutrition sources. A lot of places in the world also use nectar as a substitute for food. In-game benefits for this item are two points for every nectar that is used.
In addition to this, the expansion introduces new bonus cards and end-of-round goals. Players will have to pay more attention to these cards as various characteristics like sets of birds, their nests, wingspan, and also the direction in which their beak is facing will determine the outcome of the round. This aims to add more complexity to the game.
The player board has been updated with new features too. There are new places to store nectar, alongside options to reset the bird feeder and card tray. Other cards can also be drawn much more quickly with a reduction in laying eggs. All of this can be enjoyed while listening to the new soundtrack with picturesque backgrounds of the local fauna.
